HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05202008 - 2008-313 .1 In the Matter of Recognizing RESOLUTION NO. 2008/313 May 18-24 as Emergency Medical Services Awareness Week WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS,access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, emergency medical services teams consist of emergency medical techrdcians, paramedics, firefighters, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, emergency medical dispatchers, EMS educations, EMS administrators, and others; and WHEREAS,the members of emergency medical services teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week: NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors designates the week of May 18-24, 2008 as Emergency Medical Services Week, recognizing "Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Service," and encourages the community to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. BACKGROUND: May 18-24, 2008 is National EMS Week, with the theme of "EMS: Your Life is Our Mission." This resolution will honor local EMS providers (paramedics, emergency medical technicians, first responders, fire fighters, police, and volunteers), as well as to raise public awareness concerning health and safety issues.
