HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05132008 - 08-328 0 l RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY RESOLUTION NO. 2008/328 AS AMERICAN WETLANDS MONTH WHEREAS,,the Peyton Slough..Wetlands Advisory Committee recognizes that wetlands are wonderlands— and one of our last wildernesses;'the natural resources supported by wetlands of the San Francisco estuary are among California's most important environmental and economic"resources; and WHEREAS, the Peyton Slough Wetlands Advisory Committee was particularly well"guided by Mike Rugg of the California Dept. of Fish and Game in the formation of a Management Plan and has demonstrated commitment to the wise restoration of the wetlands now known as the McNabney Marsh and the wetlands on Rhodia's property; and WHEREAS,`downstream bay area water bodies have received environmental protection, economic sustainability, and a clean and safe environment for its residents and succeeding generations; and WHEREAS; these wetlands improve environment;:by- providing f%a+bitat>to resident and.migratory birds and wildlife, reducing greenhouse gases,:increasing biological productivity other freshwater wetlands lost in California for water supply and farming, ands reducing dlscharges'of toxlc�pollutarits_and nutrients to the Bay; and _ WHEREAS, a commitment�by,individ, ual citize.ris; the community; industiry-and,publid-institutions is necessary to successfully achieve,pollution prevention goals which help to sustain wetlands that are the beginning of the food chain; andiz ..:... ..:......
