HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 03182008 - 08-185 In the Matter of the Retirement of Sara Hoffman, Assistant County Administrator From the County of Contra Costa RESOLUTION NO. 2008/185 WHEREAS Sara Hoffman will retire from her position as Assistant County Administrator for Contra Costa County on March 29, 2008 after 251/2,y ears of County service and so it is appropriate at this time to acknowledge her many achieve"ment"s andAo-publicly,.,recognize her professional and civic leadership; and WHEREAS Sara began,-tier:stellar career with.,Contra Costa County as Energy'.Coordinator in the Public Works Department in,November, 1982; took on Franchise;Administration'tl e following year; was reassignedthree+;years later to the.County Admini'strator's Office"where she,:was.,promoted in April 1987 to.:the position of Deputy County Administrator, .and in Mardi 1989 was;;appointed the County's Solid,Waste.Manager,.- Sara received two more, promotions:to' Senior Deputy County Administrator in February 1992 and to Assistant County Administrator in March 2000; and WHEREAS Sara; as Energy Coordinator, was the County's spokesperson_before ,the Public .Utilities Commission on residential time-of-use rates, implementation of which resulted in a joint County and PG&E National Association of Counties award; and WHEREAS Sara also led the cable negotiations that resulted;iii acqursitioi:of the County's first government access,:channel and oversaw creation of CCTV, Contra Costa Television; WHEREAS when solid waste disposal,capacity..,became a crisis, Sara, as YSolyd Waster:IVlanager; served as',the County's policy pomt:person; working with.cities, the state, nearby counties and waste companies. on landfills -transfer.stations export,agreements, and, aiid . P g g WHEREAS:dtiring.her long tenure,iu th the:County Administrator's Office, Sara staffed the Board's Family and Human Services Committee and the`Policy Forum;. developed the.,.Children's IReport.'Card, Children and Family Services Budget and other performance reports; facilitated', and,;oversaw numerous interdepartmental,and interagency health and;:human services;collaborativ& including the_`Service Integration Team Program acid`Zero-Tolerance for' DomesticViolence Initiative; and developed the County's federal legislative program, WHEREAS-when the':County was confronted with tlie'possibility of three Indian ,Casinos;.Sara immersed herself in complex and:;arcarie-Indian gaming laws.arid,regulations -arid is now ari .accomplished advocate on Gaming rs"she's aridpolicy, at both the federal arnd state levels, arid. ` WHEREAS`Sara has=worked diligently to advocate for legislation critical to the County's interests and helped secure over $63 million dollars of federal appropriations for.County projects. WHEREAS, Sara is one-;of a special breed of public policy experts,.wlio.have devoted their careers to the mission of local government.. She has been a.tireless.advocate-for-the people of Contra Costa County and has passed her'enthusiasm and high standards on-to�everyone with.whom she works; and WHEREAS Sara's quick intellect, innovative,;entrepreneurial..and unconquerable spirit, and exceptional writing and editing ability made her an invaluable ineinber of the County's Executive Management Team; and WHEREAS when not dedicating herself to the well being of the County, Sara enjoys bicycling, gardening, home improvement projects, a good glass of wine, and intercontinental travel; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasure in congratulating Sara Hoffman on her indispensable service to the community, her profession, and to Contra Costa County, and wishes her mai wonderful, exciting fling years of retirement.
