CONTRA COSTA HEALTH SERVICES'
TEENAGE PROGRAM(TAP)
ON ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The TcenAge Program began in 1977 as a research and demonstration program for
adolescents to encourage responsibility for their own health care;and
WHEREAS, For 30 years,the'FeenAge Programs has expanded its mission to work in partnership with
voath and their allies to use their voices,realize their power,and influence change to create a safe
and healthy community;and
WHEREAS,'Che 1`cenAge Program achieves its.tmssnon b} providing health education and training to
youth, facilitating youth development and meptorship programs, increasing youth access to
health services through a Teen Navigator:Project and a School Based Health Clinic,and building

partnerships with anroviding training'to othevyouth seivrce providers and
WHEREAS, The 7"eeti 1ge'Prog>ari5 partners with school .disutcts,,.juvenile detention programs,
, lth education and
homeless community based agencies to provide hig -quahty;hea
services to Contra Costa's highest need youth;and
WHEREAS;'Ihc TcenAgeProgram has provided health education to middle schoolYand high school
aged'youtli since 1977, and in the-last three years alone..has ptovided education W,,ovet 27,000
youth;and x
WHEREAS, Since 1997 the "Leenrlge Program,has .partneredtenth Puhhc 1lealth Clrruc;Services to
operate a School Based Health Clinic at Richmond High Schoolptovrdtng setAaces to,over 7,000
}youth and coitinues"to'evork on,the-expansion'of youth-friendly school-based health services;

WHEREAS The Teen-Age Program;has supported schools and districts ii the;`provision of health
education sin compliance wide the. California Comprehensnve',Sesual Health andIHIV/t11DS
Prevention'Education Act since it was passed ii2003 and" ~
WHEREAS; Youth"particnpnting inathe Teen-Age'Programs F.iripowerment 1hto.ughEAction projects
have helped create positive changes'impacnng the health o`f thew school and toir"munity;and
WHEREAS,The TeeniAgel?togram strives towards the�tston'6 Contra Costa as`Ya county where all
young people:have equal=opportunity to fulfill their capacity for greatrness .and
WHEREAS,This year the Teentlge PrograI rcelebrates.its 30`h,atimv etsa. ;}
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That,of Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors

in providing thirty years ofltheducation and services to the county's most
vulnerable youth.
