AS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS,in California there were 9,345 forcible rapes reported last year;and
WHEREAS, there were 197 forcible rapes reported in Contra Costa County in the same year with
an increasing number affecting adolescents; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated by the Bureau of justice Statistics that over 74% of rapes were never
reported to police; and ...
WHEREAS, women, children.:and"'iilen of all ethnic``and'�:economic..backgrounds are victims of
sexual assault, and.it.:is:esttmated that one,in three::xvomen, one iii four girls, one In six boys,
and one in eleven men willbe victli is at least once in their lifetimes; and::..
WHEREAS, wonieil, children, and nlen suffer multiplc. .types of sexual violence including
acquaintance rape,:stranger`rape, sexual assault by an rntirnate:partner;.:gang rape, incest, sena
rape, ritual abuse,<:sexual harassment, child sexual molestation,.prostitution;:`pornography, and
stalking; and

WHEREAS.. women;` children, and men in Contra Costa. have the righ..t.to.be. safe from sexual
violence in their horlles, at school; at work, and on.tile streets; and
WHER18AS,'Corninunity Violence Solutions is comillitted to ending sexual:violence in:.Contra
Costa and provides essential victilll, Sesrial Assault Response l eani; aiid.prevention:services
to;members of our community; and
WHEREAS it is out resljonsibilih7 to .support rape survivors ley treating-theinwith (lign1 .
compassion and respccf,.arld to hold perpetrators responsible for tlieserviolent acts; an
