HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04072006 - 2006/188 F 7 IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING MAY 21-27, 2006 AS ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION WEEK RESOLUTION NO. 2006/188 Whereas the issue of elder abuse remains a largely hidden and underreported problem, affecting one of the most vulnerable populations, and 1 Whereas Contra Costa County has included elder abuse in its Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence ini- tiative, and Whereas, Contra Costa County is dedicated to preserving the safety and well-being of all its inhabitants, and Whereas Contra Costa County operates a 24-hour Adult Protective Set-vices program dedicated to inves- tigating allegations of abuse or neglect of elderly persons or dependent adults, and Whereas Contra Costa County has elder abuse prosecuting attorneys within the District Attorney's office dedicated to bringing crimes against elderly victims to justice, and Whereas, the issue of elder abuse requires continual community education and awareness, NOW, therefore be it RESOLVED that, The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors now declares the week of May 21-27 to be elder abuse prevention week; a week dedicated to community activities to educate and inform people about the types of elder abuse, intervention, and prevention measures that can be taken against elder abuse.
