HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06032004 - 94-71 Il .'HE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS .11 1 3 OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Declaring February 1, 1994 Through February 28, 1994 Black History Month in Contra Costa County Resolution No. 94/71 WHEREAS,, in 1926, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History headed by Carter G. Woodson inaugurated Black History Week which today has evolved into Black History Month{February); and WHEREAS, this month coincides with the birthdays of black leaders Fredrick Douglas (February 14th), W. E. DuBois (February 23rd)and of Abraham Lincoln (February 12th); and WHEREAS, Black History Month is an annual observance to recognize the past and current achievements of African Americans; and 0.0 WHEREAS, community organizations, cines, special districts and counties throughout the state will be sponsoring and attending events dedicated to the spirit of recognizing the contributions of African American in the development of our nation: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County declares February 1, 1994 through February 28, 1994 to be Black History Month in Contra Costa County. Introduced by Passed and adopted by unanimous votes of those Tom Powers, Supervisors present on February 1, 19940 1st District Supervisor and Chairman I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors.
