IN n1E MATTER OF Proclaiming RESOLUTION NO. 94/116
March 15 through April 15, 1994
"American Cancer Society Mother Was
Right Campaign Days" and Supporting
the Food and Nutrition Policy
Consortium's Ongoing Efforts to
Implement the County Food Policy.
WHEREAS more than two thirds of deaths in Contra Costa County are caused by chronic
diseases; and
V*THEREAS good nutrition plays an important role in reducing risk for chronic disease; and
WHEREAS a year ago, the nation's first county food policy was adopted by this Board of
Supervisors as one step in reducing risk for chronic disease; and
WHEREAS the American Cancer Society Contra Costa Unit has had an instrumental role in
the Contra Costa County Food and Nutrition Policy Consortium's activities, 'including
awarding the Consortium for its role in bringing about the count food policy; and

WHEREAS the American Cancer Society "Mother Was Right" campaign can help reduce
chronic disease risk by encouraging good eating habits; and
V*THEREAS this Board of Supervisors has actively supported the Contra Costa County Food
and Nutrition Policy Consortium in its mission to reduce chronic disease and promote good
health for all county residents;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN CONTRA
COSTA COUNTY that it hereby PROCLAIMS March 15 through April 15 American Cancer
Society "Mother Was Right" campaign days and ENDORSES Consortium activities related to
the implementation of the county food policy including the distribution of "table tents" and
"Mother Was Right" campaign materials in county facilities.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 1st day of Maich.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered on the
minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
