HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06032003 - 70-153 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of the Consolida- tion on,solidathan of the Crockett-Part Costs } Justice Curt District with the RESOLUTION NUMBER 70/153 Pinole-Hercules-Rodeo Justice � Court District. WHEREAS this Board 'conducted a hearing can March 10, 1970 on the matter of consolidating the Crockett-Port Costa Justice Court District with the Pinole-Hercules-Roden Justice Court District and continued said hearing to this date; and WHEREAS the fallowing persons appeared and urged the retention of the Crockett-Port Costa Judicial District as it presently exists: Arthur Rodriguez Frank Tacconi. Paul Davenport Gerald Littleton Bab S imont ae chi Francis Collins ; and WHEREAS the aforesaid persons presented as their reasons for retention of the existing Crockett-Fort Costa court arrangement a numberof viewpoints, including statements that a consolidated count system would result in hardships to elderly people, that the present constable service was required for police protection:, that the existing court served as an information center, that the savings to be effected by consolidation were in a small amount,, that consolida- tion resulted in removing government away from the people, and that the opposition. to the consolidation was indicated by a petition signed by more than 1,000 residents of Crockett; and WEMEAS the consolidation was discussed by the members of the Board with particular reference to the intention of the Board to continue court and constable services to the community of Crockett; and WHEREAS it was pointed out that the ongoing policy of the Board of Supervisors had been to effect lower court consolidations when- ever a judgeship vacancy- made such action practicable, that consoli- dation had been recommended over a long period of time by various Grand Juries, by the Contra. Costa Taxpayers Association, by the Judicial. Council of the State of California. and by the Office of the County Administrator; and WHEREAS it was also pointed out that there had been strenuous opposition to the eight lower court consolidations which heretofore were effected by the Board and that subsequent to such consolidations no complaints were received because the combined arrangements were found to be satisfactory; and RESOLUTION NUMBER 70/153 WHEREAS it was further pointed out that the court consolidation would not affect the operation of Crockett County Service Are P-1 which would be continued on the sate basis as heretofore, and: WHEREAS Supervisor A. X. Dias asserted that his position would be to oppose the consolidation in view of the desires of the people of Crockett to maintain their existing court arrangement and because the amount of the savings to be realized; through consolidation was not substantial; NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that Ordinance Number 70--21 adopted on February 17, 1974 to effect the consolidation of the Crockett-Port Costa 'Justice Court District with the Pinole-Hercules-Rodeo Justice Const District is to remain in effect, and BE 1T BY THE BOARD >FURTHER RESOLVED that the constable and clerical services now rendered in Crockett in connection with court operations be maintained as at present anal that court cases continue to be conducted in Crockett by the Judge of the consolidated court as intermittently required.
