HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06122001 - 2001-234 gomtm god& 5goaqt06 &%& 0/5ga*Mtf';z RESOLUTION HONORING ALAMEDA-CONTRA COSTA RESOLUTION NO. 2001/234 MEDICAL ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILLIAM GUERTIN FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE EAST BAY MEDICAL COMMUNITY AND PATIENTS WHEREAS, WILLIAM GUERTIN has served the interests of physicians and patients in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties since 1971, serving as Assistant Executive Director of the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association (ACCMA) from 1971 to 1984 and as Executive Director of the ACCMA from 1984 to the present; and WHEREAS, WILLIAM GUERTIN has been serving as the Executive Director to the ACCMA,which is the second largest county medical association in California, currently with a membership of approximately 3100 medical doctors. WHEREAS,.WILLIAM GUERTIN'S executive leadership at the ACCMA has promoted the quality of medical care and the welfare of patients in numerous ways including protecting physicians from impositions that interfere with their ability to practice medicine and preserving their relationships with their patients; and WHEREAS, WILLIAM GUERTIN has created programs and activities to promote public health, quality and access to care, and professional standards in the local medical community. Mr. Guertin has brought issues affecting quality of care to the attention of elected officials and the public promoting effective reforms, as well as operating a community Blood Bank to maintain an adequate blood supply and needed`blood services for the patients. WHEREAS, WILLIAM GUERTIN created the first doctor-owned professional liability insurance carrier in California in 1977, when physicians were unable to obtain affordable insurance necessary to practice medicine. WHEREAS, WILLIAM GUERTIN is well respected among medical association executives across the country having been elected"to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) in 1994. He will be installed as President of AAMSE on.July 27, 2001 in Washington, D.C. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby honor CSO " f/m&A&4L W cexP.G4xt.
