HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05012001 - 2001-184 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 1. 2001 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Gioia, Gerber, DeSaulnier, Glover, Uilkema NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 2001/184 SUBJECT: Authorization to execute agreement with the State Water Resources Control Board for the Strenzel Lane Erosion and Sediment Reduction Project. . WHEREAS, the area known as the Strentzel Lane neighborhood just south of the Martinez City limits in Contra Costa County historically floods due to the natural terrain of the watershed; and WHEREAS, the residents have been inconvenienced for extended periods due to difficult access to their homes. The County has spent considerable funds on debris cleanup from Sheridan Lane due to flooding following heavy rains; and WHEREAS, in September 1999, the County, Friends of Alhambra Creek (FAC), Alhambra Creek Watershed Planning Group, Alhambra Creek Improvement Association, Contra Costa County Resource Conservation District, National Park Service, City of Martinez, and local residents have applied for a State Water Resources Control Board Section 319(h) grant to improve the drainage in the Strentzel Lane and Sheridan Lane area of Martinez; and WHEREAS, the State Water Resources Control Board approved a grant for sediment reduction and erosion control in February 2001; and WHEREAS, Friends of Alhambra Creek is the lead agency in this project. The County is involved as a partner providing the expertise on design, construction, engineering, and coordination issues; and WHEREAS, the County will cover the cost of construction of a storm drain along and across Alhambra Valley Road; and WHEREAS, the grant will be used to construct improvements that will reduce erosion and amount of sediment entering Alhambra Creek; and WHEREAS, the National Park Service is interested in protecting and enhancing the RESOLUTION NO. 2001/184 John Muir gravesite property and is willing to provide right of way for drainage which will alleviate the flooding on Sheridan Lane. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors as the governing body of the Contra Costa County Public Works Department, that the agreement with the State Water Resources Control Board for the Strenzel Lane Erosion and Sediment Reduction Project has been CONSIDERED and is hereby APPROVED and the Chair of the Board of Supervisors hereby authorizes the Public Works Director to EXECUTE said agreement on behalf of the District.
