HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05012001 - 2001-172 0// IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING RESOLUTION NO. 200U171 THE MONTH OF MAY, 2001 ANIMAL ABUSE/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, the message of zero tolerance for animal abuse and domestic violence will empower the community to join together to take measures to prevent and halt the cycle of violence that destroys relationships, families and neighborhoods in our communities; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Animal Welfare Coalition is sponsoring the Cycle of Violence: the People-Animal Connection symposium in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States' First Strike campaign—a national campaign to raise awareness of the connection between animal abuse and domestic violence; and WHEREAS,the Cycle of Violence: the People-Animal Connection symposium will be held on May 2, 2001 between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the Summit Center,Bay Room;,255QArnold Drive, Martinez; and ' i'it.'. T'NDep ty Clerk BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2001/172 May 5`h, 2001 as "The Fourth Annual Hope Faire Celebrating Mental Health" (in Contra Costa County) WHEREAS, it is increasingly important to emphasize that mental health is critical for the well- being and vitality of our families, businesses and communities; and WHEREAS, there is a need to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining mental health, and to learn more about the impact of mental disabilities on one's mental health; and I- WHEREAS, learning more about mental health is important in educating the public about mental disabilities and it is vital to dispel associated negative preconceptions about persons with mental disabilities; and WHEREAS, the National Mental Health Association, the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, and their partners celebrate Mental Health Month each year in May to raise awareness about mental health, mental disabilities, and insurance discrimination against people with mental disabilities; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County Mental Health Division is the leader in the State in implementing a Recovery Model that will improve the quality of life and give a message of hope for the Contra Costa citizens that have psychiatric disabilities; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa Health Services/Mental Health Division and the Mental Health Commission will co-sponsor the Fourth.Annual Hope Faire on Saturday, May 5th, 2001, from 9 am to 4 pm in Todos Santos Plaza in downtown Concord, hosting a countywide faire open to the general public to permit residents to take a mental health day as part of Mental Health Awareness Month and to enable residents to learn more about mental health and mental health resources; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, proclaims May 5`h, 2001 as "The Fourth Annual Hope Faire Celebrating Mental Health," and requests the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations in this effort to increase awareness about the importance of mental health and to promote the understanding that, through proper treatment, support and rehabilitation, individuals are able to recover and to resume productive, satisfying lives and fully participate in their communities.
