In the Matter of Resolution No. 2001/114
HONORING JOHNNY JOHNSON AS
BRENTWOOD'S 2001 "CITIZEN OF THE YEAR"
WHEREAS, on March 24, 2001 the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce honored
Johnny Johnson as "Citizen of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Johnson has lived in the Brentwood area for several years. He has
over that time volunteered hundreds of hours to serve the needy, youth and his community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson as a member of the American Legion Post 202 and Veterans
of Foreign Wars was instrumental in the survival of both the American League Post and the
Veteran's Memorial Hall; and
WHEREAS, he was also instrumental in the process of the Wall of Honor at the Union
Cemetery as a memorial for area veterans; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson has volunteered for the past nine years to help make sure that
the needy have a Thanksgiving Dinner which is served at the Veteran's Memorial Hall; and
WHEREAS, he is also attributed with donating more than 80,000 pounds of rice, beans
and potatoes to the needy throughout the past ten years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson has served the youth of his community by volunteering his
time to the Boy Scouts, Future Farmers of American, 4-H groups and the Cans for Kids program
to name a few.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County, hereby extends sincere congratulations to Johnny Johnson for the honor being
bestowed upon him as Brentwood's 2001 "Citizen of the Year" and his unselfish
dedication to the welfare of his community, the youth and less fortunate.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 20th day of March,
2001.
