IN THE MAT'T'ER OF RECOGNIZING ] RESOLUTION NO. 97/209
MAY AS DISABILITY AWARENESS ]
MONTH IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ]
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has 83,401 individuals with a work disability or a mobility
limitation who consider transportation a critical link to the community, work, school and recreation; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County recognizes the special transportation needs of persons with
disabilities. The five transportation providers and operators including: A.C. TRANSIT, BAY AREA
RAPID TRANSIT, CENTRAL CONTRA COSTA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (THE
COUNTY CONNECTION), TRI-DELTA TRANSIT,AND WESTCAT who operate fully accessible
fixed-route coaches: and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County providers maintain a 98%wheelchair lift availability and performed
11,000 wheelchair assisted transit hoardings annually.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
does recognize the Month of May, 1997 as:
DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH
PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 6th day of May, 1997.
