HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05061997 - 97-204 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring the ) j DELA SALLE VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY ) RESOLUTION NO. 971 204 - TEAM as the 1996 State Champions ) i WHEREAS, the De La Salle tradition of excellence in sports extends to its Varsity Cross Country Team which captured the 1996 California Interscholastic Federation Division II State Champion title; and - WHEREAS, under the coaching expertise of Rico Balatti and John Pelster, the team members, Jeff George, Tom Prindiville, Sean Kenady, Alex Sanchez, Matt Click, Ryan Stanton, Tim Layden, Darren Salmi, Jason Cale, and Brian Engleton, won the title by receiving the fastest team score in any division without any individual wins; and WHEREAS, in addition to the state victory, the Cross Country Team is also the champions of the North Coast Section, the Bay Valley Athletic League, the Mt. Sac Division II Sweepstakes, the Stanford Invitational, the Adidas Invitational, and the Monte Vista Invitational; and WHEREAS, since 1989, the De La Salle Cross Country Team has been undefeated in its league, and, to top it all, the team has been ranked 12th in the nation by USA To and Harrier Magazine: and WHEREAS, with hard work, dedication, and team work, the exceptional athletes and coaches of the 1996 Varsity Cross Country team have won many competitions, and we wish to add our commendation to the team's victorious season. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the DE LA SALLE VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY TEAM as the 1996 State Champions.
