HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05071996 - 96-188 The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County IN THE MATTER OF Resolution No.: 96/18 8 DECLARING MAY 16, 1996 AS BIKE TO WORK DAY IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY WHEREAS breathing clean air is vial to healthy lungs and life; and WHEREAS the County of Contra Costa acknowledges that cycling to work is a successful rideshare mode to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and decrease fuel consumption; and WHEREAS bike-to-work days have proven effective in converting drivers into bicyclists and educating citizens about the environmental importance of biking to work regularly; and WHEREAS the County of Contra Costa encourages its citizens to bike to work, in order to improve air quality and promote the health benefits of cycling; and WHEREAS cities and counties throughout California are promoting Thursday, May 16, 1996, as a statewide bike-to-work day know as "California Bike Commute 1996"; and WHEREAS the American Lung Association, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), the California Bicycle Coalition, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, RIDES for Bay Area Commuters and the Contra Costa County Non-Polluting Commuting Project (Go Bike!) are promoting May 16, 1996, as the Bay Area's Bike-to-Work day; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, recommend that Thursday, May 16, 1996, is Contra Costa Bike-to- Work Day. PASSED by vote of the Board members present on the 7th day of May, 1996. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an Order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
