UNIMEAS, the 911e*an National;Army, under the command of General
Ignacio Zaragoza did, on Way S, 1862, at the City of 1te614, engage itself in fierce
combat with the FrenchArmy; and
UNEW�EAS, the Soldiers of WeVco erhi6ited such 6ravery, heroism and
dedicated defense of their country that they defeated the invading army of France; and
' M3 WAS, this defeat 6rought about the decline of the French Army and led
to its ultimate defeat on,buy 19, 1867; and
Z,MWAS, this heroic action 6y the JKexzcan Army brought to an end the
plans of the invading army to conquer the entireAmerican continent there6y chaing the
course of history.
9VoW,, `l TEWFOW, BE IT W SOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County does hereby proclaim Sunday, Way S, 1996, as "Cinco de Mayo
Day" in Contra Costa County to honor and recognize the courage of the Ve*an
people and the 3Ke.Zican NationalArmy as displayed 6y their valiant defense of their
country;
BE IT PVRgMR WMOLVEtD, that the Board of Supervisors invites the
citizens of Contra Costa County to join in the o6servance and cele6ration of Cinco de
Mayo.
TASSED 6y unanimous vote of the Board 9Kem6ers present on this 23rd Day of April
1996.
