HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04231996 - 96-165 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Proclaiming ) May 1, 1996 Law Day in ) Resolution No. 96/165 Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, May 1 has been designated by the United Congress and proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as LAW DAY; and WHEREAS, the American Bar Association has assumed the responsibility of assisting schools, colleges and other institutions in the celebration each year on May First Law Day U.S.A.; and WHEREAS, the association designates a theme each year for Law Day celebrations and for 1996 has designated the theme: We The People The United States Constitution The Original American Dream WHEREAS, the Diablo Valley College and numerous co-sponsors have celebrated LAW DAY each year for the past 20 years and will continue the tradition in 1996 with a program on the college campus, 312 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, California, in the Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. for students and members of the public with no admission fee; and WHEREAS, the United States of America has been the citadel=of individual liberty and a beacon of hope and opportunity for more.than 200 years to many millions who have sought our shores and pursued the American dream as envisioned by the founding fathers; and WHEREAS, Diablo Valley College has continuously given substance to the original American Dream with visions of new dreams for the citizens of Contra Costa County by the sponsorship of Law Day programs in recognition of the place of law in American life and dreams: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that they do hereby designate May 1, 1996 as LAW DAY in Contra Costa County to commemorate the role of law in the lives and dreams of our citizens.
