HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05091995 - 95-191 22 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring May 13, 1995 ) as LETTER CARRIER DAY in Contra ) RESOLUTION NO. 951191 Costa Count ) WHEREAS, the need for donations of food for hungry people in Contra Costa County is increasing despite the efforts of local charities to provide food to residents in need; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Food Bank and its network of 200 membership agencies is helping to feed 37,500 people each month, and the demand keeps growing; and WHEREAS, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), as represented in this county by Greater East Bay Branch 1111, has dedicated Saturday,May 13, 1995, to the even greater service of collecting nonperishable food as they deliver the mail; and WHEREAS, each citizen of our county is urged to help alleviate hunger by leaving a donation of canned or packaged food by their mailbox or at their local post office. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County declares May 13, 1995, as LETTER CARRIER DAY in Contra Costa County. This action is taken to recognize the partnership of the NALC Greater East Bay Branch 1111, the United States Postal Service, the United Way, the AFL-CIO, and the Contra Costa Food Bank in its efforts orts to help hungry citizens in our community. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 9, 1995, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
