HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04041995 - 95-155 X►' IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Adjourning the Board of Supervisors ) Meeting of April 4, 1995 ) in Memory of Carl Jefferson ) RESOLUTION 95/155 WHEREAS, Carl Jefferson, founder of the Concord Jazz Festival, Concord Jazz record label and City of Concord civic leader, passed away on March 29, 1995; and WHEREAS, born in Alameda, Mr. Jefferson attended the University of California at Berkeley before entering the U.S. Army, in which he served during World War II and the Korean War; and WHEREAS, in 1958 Carl opened the Concord Lincoln-Mercury dealership which was to become one of the most successful in California and demonstrated his commitment to his community through many civic accomplishments including co-founder of the Diablo Scholarships program, founder of the community leader's Century Club, charter member of the Concord Cultural Commission and president of the Concord Performing Arts Authority; and WHEREAS, Carl Jefferson, a passionate jazz fan who fell in love with music as a child, started a jazz festival in 1969 at Concord Boulevard Park that grew into the internationally acclaimed Concord Jazz Festival; and was the major force behind the building of the Concord Pavilion which opened in 1975 as a cultural venue for all our citizens; and WHEREAS, he started Concord Jazz Records creating music albums for renowned jazz artists which was nominated for 40 Grammy Awards and received eight; and WHEREAS, Carl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and dedicated citizen; and WHEREAS, Carl Jefferson, through his love of music and dedication to his community, left a gift for all the citizens of the County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it ADJOURNS ITS OFFICIAL MEETING of April 4, 1995, in memory of Carl Jefferson. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 4th day of April 1995 . I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
