in Contra Costa County )
WHEREAS, a dramatic increase in the number ofAmericans needing long-term care will put new
demands on nursing homes and those who provide nursing home care; and
WHEREAS, today's nursing homes offer 24-hour medical, nursing, and psychosocial care to
individuals.who are too frail or ill to live independently; and
WHEREAS, nursing homes also provide specialized services to both young and old, offering
rehabilitative, subacute, personal, hospice (care of the terminally ill), and respite care (short-
term "relief" care); and
WHEREAS, members of the American Health Care Association and California Association of
Health Care Facilities proudly sponsor National Nursing Home Week 1994 - "Caring For
Generations" - and along with Stonebrook Convalescent Center invite the citizens of Contra
Costa County to visit nursing facilities to benefit from the knowledge and experience of their
staff, residents,family members, and volunteers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares the week of May
8-14, 1994 as NURSING HOME WEEK in Contra Costa County and urges all citizens to honor
and to support employees of long-term care facilities who daily provide quality care to achieve
the highest level of mental, physical, and psychosocial well-being to the residents of the
community's nursing home facilities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON April 26, 1994, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
