PETITION FOR PERMISSION TO FILE LATE CLAIM
AGAINST THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA
Re: Claimants Jerry Bond, Jr. , Tina Lavette Bond, LaBronda
Sharvette Bond, and Eugenia Morris
Claimants hereby apply for permission to file a late claim or
to amend the claim previously filed against the County of Contra
Costa on behalf of the above claimants. On May 20, 1993 , claimants
filed their claims against the nursing and administrative staff for
failure to provide medical treatment which resulted in the death of
Jerry Bond, Sr. on February 10, 1993, while he was incarcerated at
the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez, California. On
December 27, 1993 , claimants discovered that the staff at the
county jail had been receiving advice from some unknown health care
professionals. On February 7, 1994, claimants learned for the
first time . that the advice county jail staff had received with
respect to treatment of Jerry Bond, Sr. had been coming from
physicians at Merrithew Memorial Hospital, including Dr. Ingrid
Bellwood.
Because claimants did not discover this negligence until
recently, this claim for medical malpractice was not included in
the original claim.
Attached to this request are additional claims on the part of
the four claimants.
