HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 03231993 - 93-141 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 93/141 Honoring Harry A. Geyser, M.D. on His Induction Into the Liberty Union High School District Athletic Hall of Fame WHEREAS,induction ceremonies into the 1993 Liberty Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be held on March 27,1993,to honor special members of the community who have made valuable contributions to the Liberty High School athletic program and Harry A. Geyser, M.D., has been selected to receive this prestigious honor; WHEREAS,Dr.Harry Geyser and his lovely wife Violet came to Brentwood in 1940 and in 1941 began serving as the team physician; WHEREAS,in 1942,when World War II began,Dr.Geyser volunteered for service in the U.S.Army Medical Corps and was commissioned as Captain. He left the service and returned to Brentwood in 1946 to continue his practice. He was officially appointed by Superintendent E. G.Nash of the Liberty Union High School District as athletic physican. Dr. Geyser has loyally served Liberty High School for 29 years until his retirement in 1970. During these years as the team physician, Dr.Geyser was not just a doctor on call, but a loyal fan as well. He missed only one home football game in all 29 years of service; WHEREAS, Dr. Geyser was born April 10, 1903, in Austin, Minnesota. He spent his early years in Russia,Poland and Germany. He attended the College of the City of New York and received his AB degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Michigan. In 1934,he received his Medical Degree from the University of St Andrews in Scotland; WHEREAS,Dr. Geyser has been honored for his many years of outstanding service to youth by such organizations as the Lions Club and the Brentwood Union School PTA. In 1971, the Liberty Union High School District honored him for his loyal and dedicated service to the high school. In 1973, the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce selected him Citizen of the Year. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby honors Dr.Harry A. Geyser for his dedicated service to the young people of Liberty High School as team physcian and as a generous and caring adult. The Board respectfully acknowledges his induction into the LUHSD Athletic Hall of Fame. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 23rd day of March, 1993.
