IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 93/127
Declaring March 28-April 3, 1993, as
Hunger Awareness Week in
Contra Costa County
WHEREAS,the need for food among hungry people in Contra Costa County is increasing. The
demand for services of local soup kitches in the county has reached 1,500 people per day.
WHEREAS,Contra Costa's emergency food pantries provided food baskets to 10,000 people
per month in 1992. The dedication and hard work of our community's pantry and soup kitchen workers
are continually making a significant, positive impact in addressing the problems of hunger in Contra
Costa County.
WHEREAS,steps can be taken by local agencies and jurisdictions to improve this dramatic situ-
ation which. threatens the health and well being of our community. However, the real answers to the
problem of hunger require the education and involvement of all the citizens of Contra Costa.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board of Supervisors declares March 28
-April 3, 1993, as Hunger Awareness Week in Contra Costa County to publicize this important issue
and to garner additional support from all sectors of the community in the fight against hunger.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 23rd day
of March, 1993.
