John E. Murdock Upon His ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/ 125
Retirement From County Service )
WHEREAS, John Eugene Murdock is retiring from his position as
Chief, Criminalistics Laboratory after 26 years of County Service,
years marked by dedication, professionalism and leadership; and
WHEREAS, born and raised in Wheaton, Illinois, John came to
California while serving in the U.S. Air Force, obtained an
Associate of Arts degree in 1965 from Vallejo Junior College,
graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California,
Berkeley in 1967 with a Batchelor of Science degree in
Criminalistics and in 1977 received a Master of Criminology degree
from that University; and
WHEREAS, John began his career with Contra Costa County as a
Student Trainee in October 1966, then Student Worker, progressing
through the classifications of Criminalist, in March 1979 being
promoted to Supervising Criminalist, and in April 1983 attaining
the position of Chief, Criminalistics Laboratory; and
WHEREAS, the Criminalistics Laboratory enjoys a national reputation
for quality under Mr. Murdock's leadership and through his
activities in professional organizations including the California
Association of Criminalists for which he served as President in
1984/85, as a Distinguished Member of the Association of Firearm
and Toolmark Examiners, as well as membership in the American
Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American Society of Crime
Laboratory Directors; and
WHEREAS, John has brought great credit to the County by his
international reputation through the many papers he has published,
his expertise in firearms and tool mark examinations and his
efforts to instill ethical standards throughout the profession and
his more that 20 years as an instructor in the Administration of
Justice Program and Diablo Valley College;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF
CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA, RESOLVED that John Eugene Murdock is
COMMENDED upon his retirement for his exemplary record of public
service to the citizens of this County.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 23rd
day of March 1993 .
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on
the date aforesaid.
