of Conservation for Recycling ) RESOLUTION NO. 91/ 389

The Board of SupervA,sors of Con't-ra Costa county RESOLVE THAT:
WHEREAS the State of under AB939 has mandated Local
Jurisdictions to reduce local waste streams by 50% by the year
2000; and
WHEREAS recycling by individuals is a key factor in helping to
. reduce the waste . stream; and
WHEREAS the State of California mandated grocery stores doing
$2 million of business per year, to have redemption centers for
beverage containers within 1/2 mile of such stores; and
WHEREAS a number of such grocery stores located in Contra
Costa County have already been granted exemptions from providing
beverage container redemption; .
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County opposes the granting of exemptions to any
additional grocery stores within Contra Costa County, and
FURTHER requests cities throughout Contra Costa County to pass
similar resolutions opposing such exemptions and to advise the
California Department 'of Conservation of their opposition.
PASSED on June 11, 1991 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
