Honoring Lenny Byer on his
Selection as Oakley's Citizen
of the Year for 1991
Lenny Byer has been selected as Oakley's Citizen of the Year for 1991, having
received multiple nominations from Soroptomist International of the Delta,the Oakley Sanitary
District, and Brentwood's Citizen of the Year Dave Blumen;
Lenny Byer has been a resident of the Oakley community since 1943;
WHEREAS,Lenny currently serves as a Captain in the Oakley Fire Department. During
his time as a volunteer,Lenny has provided emergency,and at times, life-saving services in re-
sponding to over 6,800 calls in his community. Lenny also provides great joy to the children of the
Oakley community when he suits up for the role of Santa Claus in the Fire Department's annual
'Visit from Santa';
WHEREAS,Lenny is currently serving as Chairman of the Oakley Sanitary District Board,
having been a Director for 19 years;
WHEREAS,Lenny was one of the original members of the Oakley Municipal Advisory
Council when,it was formed in 1983,volunteering countless hours of his time reviewing and provid-
ing input on such items as development applications and the Oakley General Plan, and during the
last year of his term served as Chairman of the Council;
Lenny continues to be involved with OMAC by serving on the Oakley Incorpo-
ration Committee and on the Oakley Traffic Advisory Committee,monitoring road improvement
projects funded by the Oakley Area of Benefit;
WHEREAS,Lenny is an active member of the Rotary Club;
WHEREAS,Lenny has been an active supporter of Rainbow Girls, Little League, and local
school bands throughout the years;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Super-
visors hereby joins the Oakley Chamber of Commerce and the Oakley community in honoring and
recognizing Lenny Byer on his selection as Oakley Citizen of the Year for 1991, and commends him
for his many years of devoted service to the Oakley,community.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 14th day of May, 1991.
