HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04231991 - 91-247 /,30 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring ) April 29, 1991 through May 5, 1991 ) as "Cinco de Mayo Week" in ) RESOLUTION NO. 91/247 Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, on May 5, 1862, the Army of Mexico met, engaged in conflict and defeated French forces at the Battle of Puebla; and WHEREAS, though outnumbered and by comparison untrained, -the Mexican troops exhibited great courage and self-sacrifice to --successfully repel the invasion of their land by foreign forces; and WHEREAS, this victory over the French contributed to some degree toward the preservation of the United States which was then engaged in its Civil War; and WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo is recognized as a day which symbolizes the opposition of free people to attempts at tyranny and demonstrates the triumph of Freedom over oppression; and WHEREAS, concerned citizens of Mexican ancestry and other Hispanic organizations will be sponsoring and attending observances dedicated to the spirit of the event. NOW, THEREFORE, We the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County do hereby proclaim April 29, 1991 through May 5, 1991 as: "CINCO DE MAYO WEEK" in Contra Costa County. PASSED on April 23 , 1991 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
