HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 03261991 - 91-180 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring ) March 1991 as PROFESSIONAL ) RESOLUTION NO. 91/ 180 SOCIAL WORK :MONTH in Contra ) Costa County ) People, as individuals and members of families, are our principal resource, and the strength of many individuals and families is challenged by pressures and lack of resources. . Many of our citizens live in poverty, are physically or mentally handicapped, are chemically dependent, are new immigrants, are abused and neglected as children or aged, are mentally ill, or are struggling to cope with serious life stresses. Individual and family dysfunctions take their toll not only on individuals and . families but on society as a whole. The tradi- tional goal of our nation and of the social work profession is to enable all our citizens to lead the most productive, satisfying, and independent lives possible. Professional social workers perform an important service by helping others cope in difficult times and have been actively involved in the organization of programs to improve and enhance the strength of individuals and families. Social workers constitute the largest group of professionals engaged in providing psychosocial assistance, counseling, and services to the public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares March 1991 as PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH in recognition of the role professional social workers play in providing opportunities for a life of accomplishment, dignity, and purpose and call upon members of the community to join with the social work: profession in support of appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities designed to achieve that goal.
