HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06271989 - 89-430 ' v / , IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Supporting ) the City of Concord' s ) Continued Funding of the ) Resolution No. 89/ 430 Rape Crisis Center ) WHEREAS, the incidence of sexual assault in Contra Costa County increased 200% between 1987 and 1988 and the incidence of child molestation increased by 171% during that same period; and WHEREAS, Rape Crisis Center of West and Central Costa County has provided support, counseling and prevention services to over seven hundred survivors or potential victims of sexual assault in the last nine months alone; and WHEREAS, two hundred of these clients are Central County residents , thirty percent of whom reside in the city of Concord, and are served through the Concord office; and WHEREAS, the State of California' s Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP) will cut their funding of the Central County office by eighty percent for the next three years ; and WHEREAS, the proposed elimination of both funding and donated office space by City of Concord, in combination with the OCJP cuts , will result in a 50% loss of funding for the Concord office; and WHEREAS, this loss of funding severely threatens the adequate delivery of both support services for sexual assault survivors and assault prevention programs for all residents of Contra Costa County, Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County HEREBY encourages the City of Concord to continue to fully fund a Rape Crisis Center in Central Contra Costa and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that we make an additional effort to seek the governors personal support in funding the Central Contra Costa Rape Center.
