HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06271989 - 89-418 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF ) Congratulating The County ) Connection on receiving the ) APTA Safety Improvement Award) RESOLUTION NO. 89/ 418 WHEREAS, The County Connection was formed on March 18, 1980, and began operations on June 7, 1982 as a result of a study committee formed in 1978; and WHEREAS, the system has grown to cover Clayton, Concord, Danville, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon, Walnut Creek and the unincorporated areas of Central Contra Costa County, with services closely coordinated with the BART rail and bus system, serving over 15,000 daily customers; and WHEREAS, The County Connection averaged more than 380, 000 miles last year without a collision, showing a 84% reduction in the vehicle accident rate compared to aggregate records for the same systems in 1987; and WBEREAS, The North America' s safest means of travel show- cased its safest systems during the 76th presentation of the American Public Transit Association' s (APTA) Safety Awards; and NOW, THEREFORE,, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County CONGRATULATES The County Connection on receiving the APTA Safety Improvement Award for the population group of 250,000 to 500,000. PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 27th day of June.
