Proclaiming May 6, 1989 as ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/251
"National Nurses' Day" )
WHEREAS, nurses have a positive impact on people's lives every
day by nature of their keen judgement, compassion, and clinical
expertise, and
WFn;REAS, nurses are the largest group of health care providers in
this country with 6,690 Registered Nurses and 1,444 Licensed Vocational
Nurses residing in Contra Costa County, and
WSEREAS, the demand for nursing services is escalating in light
of changes in the financing of .health care services, the settings where
services are delivered, and the health care needs of an aging American
population, and
WfU;REAS, the supply of nurses is not keeping pace with the demand
and there is an urgent need not only to recruit well qualified
candidates into the profession but -to retain nurses in their work
environment, and
WHEREAS, more qualified nurses will be needed in the future to
meet the increasingly complex health care needs of the citizens in this
community, and
WHEREAS, the American Nurses' Association and the California
Nurses' Association have declared May 6 as NATIONAL NURSES' DAY 1989
with the theme "Nurses Change Lives" in celebration of the ways in which
nurses contribute to high quality health care and positive change in
people's lives;
NOW, TfiEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors, California, urge all citizens in this County to join us in
celebration and recognition of the contributions of nurses and their
unique ability to have a positive impact on the lives of those they care
for.
PASSED on April 25, 1989 by unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date
aforesaid.
