HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06141988 - 88-346 ?- 00", 4 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on June 14 , 1988 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, McPeak, Torlakson $ Schroder NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO.88/346 SUBJECT: In the matter of requesting the amendment of the Corps of Engineers ' Walnut Creek Project to include channel improvements on San Ramon Creek between Chaney and Livorna Roads, Project No. 7520-6B8299, Alamo-Walnut Creek Area WHEREAS the Corps of Engineers will be completing the San Ramon Creek Bypass improvement in 1990 thereby providing needed flood protection to downtown Walnut Creek; and WHEREAS said improvements will not provide the desired level of protection unless flood flows are retained in the upstream creek or the overbank flood flows are redirected back into the creek at Rudgear Road; and WHEREAS creek improvements costing $4 , 000, 000 are needed to retain flood flows in the upstream creek between Chaney Road and Livorna Road thereby reducing flooding in Alamo and eliminating the need for redirecting flood flows back into the drainage system; and WHEREAS the cost of redirecting the flood flows back into the creek is estimated to cost $350, 000 and said costs need not occur if the above work is completed; and WHEREAS the Corps of Engineers, under the Walnut Creek Basin Investigation Project, is currently reviewing the feasibility of implementing said upstream improvements and the project appears to be economically justified and has public support. BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, as the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County and as the Governing Board of Contra Costa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, hereby ,requests the Corps of Engineers to add the San Ramon Creek-Chaney Road to Livorna Road Project to the Walnut Creek Project thereby solving an upstream flooding problem and insuring the desired level of protection for downtown Walnut Creek. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Board requests U.S. Senator Alan Cranston, U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, and U.S. Congressman George Miller III sponsor and support Congressional Legislation to amend the Corps of Engineers ' Walnut Creek Project to include the improvement of San Ramon Creek between Chaney and Livorna Roads.
