HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04051988 - 88-157 TSE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY IN THE MATTER OF ) RESOLUTION NO. 88/157 Coimnemorating the 46th Anniversary ) of the Fall of Bataan ) WHEREAS, the Fall of Bataan commemorates the surrender on April 9, 1942 , of about 350 ,000 Philippine and American soldiers who, through great courage and self-sacrifice, were the last stronghold against the invaders during World War II ; and WHEREAS, the surrender was followed by the infamous Bataan Death March in which thousands were killed and survivors were led into concentration camps; WHEREAS, Bataan was recaptured in February 1945 by General Douglas MacArthur and is now a Philippine national shrine; WHEREAS, the Fall of Bataan is one of World War II 's most significant events in which Americans and Filipinos fought gallantly side by side with great sacrifice and devotion for freedom and democracy; and WHEREAS, the Fil-American Association will sponsor a dinner to commemorate the 46th Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1988 ; and WHEREAS, this annual event honors those who fought in the infamous World War II battle and serves as an celebration of the spirit of patriotism, courage and self-sacrifice; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does hereby join the Filipino-American community in commemorating the 46th Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan and commends the Fil-American Association of Pittsburg for its valuable contribution to our diversified community through the promotion and presentation of the Filipino culture to our citizens; PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 5th day of April, 1988. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
