HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04121988 - 88-193 5 7 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF ) Recognizing the Valuable ) RESOLUTION NO. 88/193 Contributions of ) Joe Tovar, Nominee for ) Oakley Citizen of the Year) WHEREAS, Joe Tovar, a life long resident of Oakley, has been nominated for the Oakley Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding and dedicated service to the community; WHEREAS, Joe Tovar was born and raised in Oakley and has served as a volunteer fireman and chief for over 35 years; WHEREAS, he was instrumental in the formation of Oakley' s first Little League program and acquiring ball fields and bleachers for Liberty High School. He also played a significant part in organizing the first softball slow pitch league and helped form the Junior League Baseball team; WHEREAS, he assisted in bringing Dr. Don Rose to Oakley for a celebrity tour thus helping to "put Oakley on the map" ; WHEREAS, Joe Tovar is a active member of St. Anthony' s Church where he is a Eucharistic leader and minister visiting and providing communion to the sick and leads Bible study and reading groups. WHEREAS, he has further served the community through his active participation in the Boy Scouts, the Oakley Sportsman Club, the Diablo Radio Communications Center Board, and the recreation district. He also helped form the Lion' s Club of Oakley; WHEREAS, Joe Tovar is very involved in the East County Food Colition helping in delivering food baskets to the needy during the holiday season; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, does hereby extend's its heartiest congratulations to Joe Tovar on his nomination as 1988 Oakley Citizen of the Year and joins the community in recognizing him on his outstanding and dedicated service to the Oakley community. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 12th of Day of April, 1988 .
