Clark Wallace Family Day in )
Contra Costa County )
The County of Contra Costa recognizes Sunday, June 7, 1987, as The Clark
Wallace Family Day. The Wallace Company has been a family owned business in
the area for 60 years. Will S. Wallace and W. Ed Wallace, Clark Wallace's
grandfather, opened their first office in Oakland in 1927-28. Their second
office opened in Orinda at the site next to the Orinda Theater in 1928. Clark
Wallace joined the company in 1958. They now have five offices in Moraga,
Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek and San Ramon with 100 sales associates
employed.
Ed Wallace is now retired and just celebrated his 87th birthday on May 27th.
His wife Edith who has been the secretary for the company will celebrate her
88th birthday on July 3rd.
Clark Wallace was recently awarded the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai B'rith an organization committed to fighting
bigotry and discrimination. Presentation of this award to Clark Wallace is a
testament to his outstanding service. Also, his work in implementing the Fair
Housing Initiative Program, as President of the National Association of
Realtors, and his continued involvement in the Orinda Chamber of Commerce have
all benefitted our community.
Clark Wallace has three children: Tia Wallace Kratter, an artist in the area;
Marshall Wallace, an attorney in Washington, D.C.; and Wendy Lee Wallace who is
an accountant and active as a basketball coach. Gerry Wallace, Clark's wife
is a well known local artist and has had many of her paintings displayed in
local art shows.
The contributions of this family's long standing business development in
Contra. Costa County is significant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County that the day of June 7, 1987, is PROCLAIMED "The Clark Wallace Family
Day" and that all citizens are urged to join in this observance.
