HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06231987 - 87-373 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Congratulating ) Tom Cleveland ) Resolution No. : 87/373 Lafayette Citizen of the Year ) ) WHEREAS Tom Cleveland has been named Lafayette' s thirty- eighth Citizen of the Year; and WHEREAS Tom Cleveland and his wife, Joan, have resided in Lafayette for seventeen years and raised their children, Linda and David, there; and WHEREAS Tom Cleveland plunged into Lafayette civic groups such as the happy Valley Homeowners Association and the Lafayette Improvement Association; and WHEREAS Tom Cleveland proposed, planned and saw to completion zoning of Lafayette' s downtown and Mt. Diablo Boulevard areas that clustered necessary services and businesses in logical groupings in each part of town; and WHEREAS Tom Cleveland traded his slide rule for majority rule in 1980 when he was elected to the Lafayette City Council as mayor; and WHEREAS Tom Cleveland brought enough attention to his town' s wish to retain the Theater that a successful operator stepped in, restored it and now its marquee glows every night reminding all who see it that important public places can indeed be preserved and functional. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES Tom Cleveland on his selection as Lafayette Citizen of the Year, COMMENDS his creative and thoughtful efforts as an elected and appointed official and LAUDS his vision and determination that Lafayette should realize its goal of acquiring its own community center, a goal he was instrumental in achieving. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board EXTENDS to Tom Cleveland its best wishes for further personal and civic success. Passed and adopted on June 23, 1987, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
