HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 04281987 - 87-242 I.d IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming ) May 7, 1987 as a National Day ) RESOLUTION NO. 87/242 of Prayer in Contra Costa ) County ) WHEREAS in 1775 the Continental Congress proclaimed the first National Day of Prayer as the initial positive action they asked of every colonist; and WHEREAS the United State of America began with a national dependence on the Providence of God and the freedom of religion; and WHEREAS the National Day of Prayer was revived as an annual observance by Congress in 1952 and has become a great unifying force for our citizens who come from all great religions of the world; and WHEREAS in recognition of the infinite blessings that God has bestowed on our Country and our County, we hereby proclaim our joining with the rest of the nation in observance of a National Day of Prayer on May 7, 1987; and WHEREAS we join in the prayers that will be offered for peace and to seek God' s guidance for our nation and we ask that God will continue to protect us, guide us, unite us and to make us truly "one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. " NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that May 7, 1987 is hereby PROCLAIMED as a National Day of Prayer in Contra Costa County. IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board CALLS upon every citizen of this great County to gather together to pray, each after his or her own manner, for unity of hearts and peace for all manking. PASSED on April 28 , 1987 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
