HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 03031987 - 87-112 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Platter of Commending ) Tom Simms, Former Chief of Police ) Resolution No . : 87/112 Town of Moraga ) For His Dedicated Service ) To the Community ) WHEREAS Tom Simms accepted recently the position of Chief of the Piedmont Police Department after serving as Chief of the Moraga Police Department for two and a half years ; .-and WHEREAS Tom Simms began his career in Moraga as a lieutenant in the Department vhen it was formed in January, 1980 , and was promoted to chief in June , 1984 ; and WHEREAS Toni Simms was awarded a B.A. in Management by St . Mary ' s College in Moraga in 1981 ; and 1-111EREAS Tom Simms aided the Moraga Junior Women ' s Club in producing their award-winning film and puppet show for children called "The Dangerous Stranger" because he recognized that child molestation and abuse is committed more frequently by a friend or relative than a stranger in a car offering candy; and WHEREAS Toni Simms built a police force for Moraga that is youth and community oriented with a high degree of involvement and presence as well as an exceptional officer retention rate ; and WHEREAS Tom Simms encouraged his officers ' professional growth and commitment to the Town so that Moraga was cited in a national publication as one of the thirty safest cities in the United States with the second lowest crime rate in California two years ago; and WHEREAS Tom Simms energetically attacked the problem of alcohol abuse by minors who purchase it at local markets and convenience stores through cooperative efforts with the District Attorney in prosecuting the corporate retailers who sell alcohol to underage residents , thereby graphically communicating community intolerance of this business practice ; and WHEREAS Tom Simms retains his Moraga residence , a reassuring note to many. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California , CONGRATULATES Tom Simms on his professional advancement to Chief of Police of Piedmont and COMMENDS his dedicated and creative approaches to law enforcement . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board EXTENDS to Tom Simms its best wishes for further professional growth and REGRETS his loss to the law enforcement community of Contra Costa County. Passed and adopted on March 3 , 1987 , by unanimous vote of the Board members present .
