HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 06101986 - 86-331 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF ) Proclaiming June 19, 1986 ) "San Ramon Valley Library ) Day" ) RESOLUTION NO. 86/331 WHEREAS, the first lending library in Danville was established in 1906 by borrowing 50 books on a revolving basis from the California State Library;and WHEREAS, in 1913, Contra Costa County opened the San Ramon Valley Library over the Post Office on Front Street, with a total of 104 volumes and in 1926, moved to the newly constructed Danville Veteran's Memorial Building; and WHEREAS, in 1957, a group of dedicated citizens organized the San Ramon Valley Library League to assist the County Library staff in improving the quality of service for the San Ramon Valley Library; and WHEREAS, the population in the San Ramon Valley was expanding so rapidly that it necessitated forming a County Service Area to include Danville, Alamo, Diablo, Tassajara and San Ramon in order to finance acquisition of a site and to construct a library building which opened its doors in June 1961 with 16,140 volumes on the shelves; and WHEREAS, the San Ramon Valley Library now has a circulation of more than 193,855 volumes and often serves over 750 patrons per single day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that June 19, 1986 be proclaimed "San Ramon Valley Library Day" in cele- bration of its "25th Jubilee" and that San Ramon Valley Library be commended for its role in increasing the educational , informational , cultural and recre- ational opportunities for the citizens of the San Ramon Valley area. Passed and adopted by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 10th day of June.
