HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 05201986 - 86-283 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 20, 1986 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 86/283 SUBJECT: In the matter of requesting the California Department of Transportation to begin engineering work on the proposed interim improvements on Highway 4 at Willow Pass Grade. Whereas traffic on Highway 4 at the Willow Pass Grade in Contra Costa County is highly congested during the commute hours, and Whereas the improvement to this segment of Highway 4 has been the highest priority unfunded project in Contra Costa County and in the San Francisco Bay Area region for the last two years , and Whereas because of the Federal and State funding shortage, construction of this much needed improvement on Highway 4 is not anticipated to happen in the near future, and Whereas staff has recommended that a $2 million interim project to add one traffic lane to the westbound direction is feasible and will add 50% to the westbound capacity of the highway, and Whereas the cities of Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg and the County of Contra Costa have jointly made available $100,000 for the preliminary engineering cost of the interim improvement, and Whereas the Cities and the County have indicated their desire to fund the construction of the interim improvements, and Whereas in order to send a message to the California Transportation Commission of the strong local support and commitment to the improvement of Highway 4 and to urge the California Transportation Commission to consider favorably the planned improvement of Highway 4. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors that: 1. Caltrans is requested to begin the engineering work on the interim improvements on Highway 4 and the Cities of Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg and the County have made $100,000 available for this purpose; 2. The California Transportation Commission is urged to consider favorably the planned improvement of Highway 4 at the earliest date.
