Charles A. Hammond Upon His ) RESOLUTION N0. 86/179
Retirement from County Service )
WHEREAS Charles A. Hammond, Chief Assistant County Administrator, has
announced his retirement, effective March 29, 1986, after 35 years of County
service; and,,
WHEREAS Charles, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley,
began his County career in October 1951 as a Junior Personnel Technician within
the Personnel Department, and in 1956 transferred to the Office of the County
Administrator, where he served in a variety of positions, ultimately promoting
to the position of Chief Assistant County A!dhinistrator; and
WHEREAS during his career Charles has witnessed the transformation of
Contra Costa County from a "cow county" with much unincorporated, agriculturally
oriented area to a highly urbanized community with expanding residential, com-
mercial and 'industrial growth; and
WHEREAS Charles has efficiently performed a wide variety of management
duties, andhas been directly involved with the administration of many County
programs and major projects; and
WHEREAS Charles has expertly served as a Chief Assistant to several
County Administrators and was known for keeping a "low profile" while assuring
that. significant staff support services were performed in order to complete
major projects and to implement policies adopted by the Board of Supervisors;
and
WHEREAS Charles has earned the respect of his immediate staff and staff
of all County departments through his ability to coordinate a broad range of
activities and solve complex management problems;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County hereby EXTENDS its sincere congratulations to Charles A. Hammond and
wishes him and his wife, Helen, good health and many years of happiness in
retirement. !'
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 8th day
of April 1986.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a
resolution entered on the minutes of this Board of Supervisors on the aforesaid
