SUBJECT: Fire Prevention Facilities in Bollinger Canyon
WHEREAS the California Department of Forestry (CDF)
and the California Conservation Corps (CCC) have combined forces
over the past .seven years to provide an effective and much-needed
fire prevention and fire suppression service functioning out of the
former Nike site at Bollinger Canyon; and .
WHEREAS this fire prevention and' fire protection service
has earned for CDF and CCC the total respect and appreciation of
the citizens of Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS the State of California' s desire to reduce the
cost of government has resulted in a decision which will close the
valuable Bollinger Canyon Fire Center; and
WHEREAS the action of intended closure occurs at a time
when the area served by Bollinger Canyon Fire Center is facing
what is acknowledged by CDF and local fire officials to be an
extremely hazardous fire season; and
WHEREAS the citizens and elected officials of Contra
Costa County have joined with their elected City and County officials
in a successful cooperative effort with our County' s State legislative
delegation to provide $690 , 000 in the proposed 1984-85 fiscal budget
to finance an alternative, less costly fire service at Bollinger
Canyon; and
WHEREAS the investment of $690 ,000 likely would be a

conflagration if the Bollinger Canyon fire service is non-operative;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors

$690 , 000 is a matter of great urgency and we duly REQUEST the support

these vital services.
