HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 02071984 - 84-81 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commending the) California Highway Patrol for ) Spot Checking Trucks Carrying ) Resolution No. 84/81 Hazardous Materials in Contra ) Costa County ) WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has experienced an increase in hazardous chemical spills over the last few years; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has been chosen as the first county , in California to have the CHP spot check trucks carrying hazardous materials; and WHEREAS, after two days of spot checking hazardous loads in the eastern part of the county and at the scales on north- bound and southbound Interstate 680 and at the Marina Vista offramp in Martinez, 65 hazardous material citations were issued, 18 were for bad brakes, 6 for defective suspensions, 11 for lack of the hazardous material licenses and 16 for incomplete shipping documents; and WHEREAS, at least 5 trucks cited were considered to dangerous to continue on the highways until the violations were corrected; and WHEREAS, this program was initiated by Captain Ron Oliver and his staff; and WHEREAS, . Captain Oliver and his officers have demonstrated a proactive rather than reactive approach to public safety in the matter of transporting hazardous materials on public roads and highways; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that we eo hereby commend Captain Ron Oliver and the officers involved in this program for their efforts in promoting public safety and awareness . PASSED and ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board on the seventh day of February 1984 .
