BACKGROUND:
The Shared Family Care program is a whole family mentoring program where a mother and her
children are placed in the homes of community members who mentor the families and help them
obtain the skills and resources to achieve personal goals. The target population for this program
is young mothers with substance abuse issues and who have children in the Child Welfare
System. The families are given comprehensive services including housing assistance, drug and
alcohol counseling, case management, money management, job skills training and parenting
and child development classes, to help them meet their needs. The goal of the program is to
assist the parents in developing skills necessary for healthy, safe, and independent living with
their children.
This amendment will add $80,000 to the FY 07-08 contract to fund activities associated with the
Shared Family for Teen program.
