(100% Federal funds, CFDA 93.600) (All Districts) FISCAL IMPACT: If awarded, funding for the period October 1, 2008—June 30, 2009 will be appropriated into the Department's FY 2008-09 budget. The County, as Grantee, is required to generate a 20% non-federal match not to exceed $12,500 for each budget period. This match is achieved through collaboration with partners providing program support services and our collaboration with the State Child Development Program. ABSENT: ABSTAIN: ATTESTED JOHN CULLEN,CLERK OF THE BOARD OF S ERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR` Contact Person: Cassandra Youngblood,646-5976 CC: CAO EHSD/Comm Srvcs (3 original,signed,sealed copies) o BY: DEPUTY Employment& Human Services Department Page Two ACF Grant—Supporting Grandparents (39-900) June 3,2008 CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa County's community outcomes - Outcome 1: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School," Outcome 3: "Families that are Economically Self- sufficient," and, Outcome 4: "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: As the Head Start grantee, the Department is eligible to apply for funds to provide supportive services to grandparents who are raising grandchildren enrolled in Head Start. These funds will assist the Department to provide grandparent support groups, parenting classes that support child development, assistance for grandparents navigating State and local services systems, legal services referrals as well as many other supportive programs. If awarded, the County will have opportunity to renew the grant for an additional two years, for a total allocation of$150,000 over the three year period. The application was reviewed and approved by the Head Start Policy Council on May 21, 2008.
