RECOMMENDATION
DESIGNATE Board of Supervisors Chair Federal D. Glover as the voting delegate for Contra Costa
County at the 73rd Annual National Association of Counties (NACo) Conference, July 11-15, 2008.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No impact to Contra Costa County.
BACKGROUND:
The National Association of Counties (NACo) is preparing for its 73rd Annual Conference, to be held
July 11-15, 2008 in Jackson County, Missouri. It is important that Contra Costa County participates in
the association's annual election of officers and policy adoption for this year's American County
Platform. In order to participate, a county must have paid its membership dues and have one paid
registrant for the conference.
At the conference, counties vote on resolutions that set NACo legislative and association policy for
the coming year. Delegates also elect NACo officers for the coming year. A voting delegate is
someone authorized by the county to pick up a ballot and cast the county's votes at the annual
conference. Any county official may be a voting delegate. The decision is up to the county board.
Supervisor Glover is scheduled to attend the conference. It is customary that the Board Chair be
designated the voting delegate.
