June"3,2008 On this day the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in honor of Alvie Leroy Brunk Resident of Concord Alvieleroy Brunk died peacefully on 4/24/08 at his residence in Concord, CA. He was born 3/19/31 in Clovis;New Mexico. Moved to Chico, CA at age 5 with his parents where he graduated from Chico High School in 1949. Alvie joined the Air Force after high school where he spent 4 years and served in the Korean War. Alvie married Virginia Louise Schmidt in 1956 and graduated from Chico State University in 1957 with majors in Art and Physical Education.In 1959 Al took a position with the Mt. Diablo School District where he remained until his retirement in 1991, having held various positions including teacher, coach, counselor and Vice-Principal at Pacifica High School, Vice-Principal at Mt. Diablo High School, Principal at:Olympic High School, and finally Assistant Director of Continuing Education. In retirement Al enjoyed a variety of activities including reading, fishing,hiking, golf, travel and photography. Alvie is survived by his loving wife Virginia, sons Karl and Kurt, and granddaughter Reagan. His:humor, warmth and strength of character will be greatly missed by all. There will be a memorial service at the Concord Senior Center on June 7th at loam. Contributions can be made,�jn Alvie's memory to Concord Senior Center's Scholarship Fund. OG n a Q AJ THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adjournment June,3, 2008 On this day the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in honor of James Johann Sweeny, March 27, 1927 - May 25, 2008, former resident of Moraga. Jim served in the Army Air Force, then attended and received''a degree in business from the University of Richmond. Jim started his career at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company.in Hartford, then studied law at Loyola University in Chicago and Temple University in Philadelphia, where he received his J.D. In 1956, Jim began working for Towers Perrin Forster and Crosby Management Consultants, eventually becoming a managing director of the firm. He worked in the New York, Cleveland, and Philadelphia offices, and finally moved to the Bay Area in 1971 as the Manager'of the San Francisco office and Regional Manager of the Western Region. Following early retirement in 1987, he dedicated himself to public service. He was elected to the Moraga Town Council for two four-year terms, serving as Mayor of Moraga twice, and was recognized as Moraga Citizen of the Year in 1996. Jim also served as Chairman of Goodwill Industries for the East Bay, President of the Moraga Valley Kiwanis Club, "Big Sir" of Sons in Retirement, and on the boards of the Hearst Art Gallery at Saint Mary's College, the Moraga Planning Commission and the Moraga Educational Foundation. He was a generous philanthropist, skilled duplicate bridge player, avid tennis player and all around fun-loving guy. Jim died peacefully on May 25 from complications of pneumonia at the age of 81.
