I present them as a longtime County resident, an environmental educator honored by the County, and as the catalyst for the creation of the Adopt a Corridor program as a member of the Iron Horse Corridor Management Program Advisory Committee (IHCMPAC) . After four years of trying to coordinate volunteer restoration events and foster a successful public private partnership to enhance the Corridor I came to the conclusion that the 26 page Adopt a Corridor handbook facilitated by the Public Works Department did not work. This seemed to be the feeling of current members of the committee as well. Nevertheless, the desirability of involving citizens in caring for the natural resources of their communities remains of great importance. To solve this dilemma perhaps the Iron Horse Corridor restoration could be considered another one of the County volunteer opportunities along with the Creek monitoring programs under Conservation and Community Development. They could be included in the Environmental Volunteers program outlined on your website. It would demonstrate the County's focus on sustainable practices. This project does not belong under the Maintenance Department whose landscape maintenance practices seem to be inconsistent! with the Adopt a Corridor protocol. The reasons for the failure of the Adopt a Corridor program from the nonprofit organization's perspective are outlined in a document provided to John Pulliam several months ago at an IHCMPAC meeting and should be available to you. I hope to hear from one or all of you on this matter. The first interpretive sign for the Corridor is coming along nicely by the way. It will explain the history of the Corridor, its ecology and its place in the Walnut Creek Watershed. Thank you so much. PLEASE reinstate the Briones Fire Station #19 ! ! ! It is crucial for the many families that not only live here, but the hudreds of others that visit the area to ride, or patronize the park. They have been the saving grace for many souls who have had horrific accidents on Bear Creek Rd, as well. ------------------------------------------------------------ 1v COB Public Comments To: recruiting@so.cccounty.us 2-4 06/24/2008 08:34 AM cc: dinpow@excite.com Subject: BOS Agenda Comments from Website FYI, received in the Board of Supervisors public comment e-mail box. I was unable to find an email address for them. I originally sent this email which appears to contain evidence of a crime in progress to Alameda county Sherifs Dept but that email did not go through & a reverse search of the suspects phone number indicates it to be a Contra Costa cel number.
