RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20566, to add two (2) Environmental Health Specialist II (VLVA) [Represented] positions
at salary level QT5 1759 ($5,977 -$7,266) as recommended by the Assistant County Administrator-Human Resources Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of$273,311.38. Costs will be offset by increased fee revenue generated by the
inspections performed by the additional staff.
BACKGROUND:
The Department is requesting to add two Environmental Health Specialist positions to the Environmental Health Division's Retail Food
Program. The additional positions are necessary in order to keep up with the growth in the number of permitted facilities in East and
South Contra Costa county. Over the past two years there have been approximately 240 additional facilities added, increasing the
total number of facilities to almost 4000 throughout the County. In addition, the number of complaints requiring inspection has
increased by 31%since 2005. With each facility requiring a minimum of two inspections per year, plus the increase in permitted
facilities and complaints received additional staff is necessary to meet present demands and ensure the public's safety.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, Health Services Department/Environmental Health Division will not hav ufficien staffing to meet
requirements in order to ensure the public's safety.
